Wing Four - General Nursing Care

PDFPrintE-mail

This is a general nursing care area that is home to a varied population with wide ranging needs.  It has a very open feel (the doors to the Wing are not closed) that includes a large covered patio area within view of the nursing station.  The patio is linked to the path that winds through the grounds.  Over the years we have found that this is a particularly amenable area for family members who choose to assist their resident at meal times or spend lots of time together with various past times.

Wing Three - Late Stage Dementia

PDFPrintE-mail

The late stage dementia area is designed to serve individuals who are no longer ambulating independently and/or may benefit from a low stimulation environment.  The resident may require extensive to total staff support for all activities of daily living.  If the resident exhibits abusive or combative behaviors, the behaviors must respond to therapeutic staff approach and/or medications.

As individuals progress through the stages of Alzheimer’s disease, they no longer can identify family members, often become inarticulate and no longer understand the need for assistance.  As in Wing Two, staff members receive specialized training in order to be able to patiently and successfully assist these residents.

Wing Two - Mid Stage Dementia

PDFPrintE-mail

The mid stage dementia area serves individuals who require more physical and/or behavioral support than those in the early stage area.  If the resident manifests abusive or combative behaviors, the behaviors must be manageable through therapeutic approaches and/or low to moderate medication.  The resident must be able to bear sufficient weight so as to assist in transfer to and from a chair or bed.  The resident cannot require extended oxygen or IV therapy, or any medical treatment which requires external devices.  The resident who uses a wheelchair on the Unit must manage the wheelchair in such a way as to not endanger others.

This is a very specialized living area, designed for people who are compelled to wander about (typical of people in the middle stages of Alzheimer’s Disease).  We have created a space in which this population can feel accepted and be safe, not have to hear someone say, “You can’t go in there”.  People who live in Wing 2 once again enjoy companionship, have a peer group that was not available to them in the general community.

Wing One - Early Stage Dementia

PDFPrintE-mail

DSCN5338The early stage dementia area is designed to serve the memory impaired individual who still functions fairly well within a structured environment.  This area is a sociable community that is sensitive to inappropriate behaviors.  The resident should have a sense of her own personal space to the extent that she does not enter the rooms of others and handle their belongings.  She should be able to feed herself in a manner that is acceptable to the public at large.  Her skills in this regard should be such that she can eat a meal in a restaurant and not "draw attention".  If she needs help with dressing, grooming or using the bathroom, her deficits need to be such that one staff person can successfully assist her.  Individuals in this area cannot exhibit a pattern of disruptive behaviors.

Although this area is secured, we have found that many people who do not have a memory problem request to live on Wing One because of the sociable environment.

seasons-header

When people think of Ripley Crossing, many think of long term dementia care, our rehab - both out-patient and in-patient care, and our senior's apartments.  We recognized that one piece of the puzzle was missing... an Assisted Living facility.

"Seasons" at Ripley Crossings

This new wing, attached to the main building via a walkway, but completely independent from the rest of the complex, is be a 20 unit building with its own covered entrance and parking.

Groundbreaking (see pictures below) was on June 8, 2010.  By late August - the foundation was in, ready for the walls to start going up.  The wing officially opened on March 11th, 2011.

We're very excited about this final piece to the Ripley Crossing direction in Senior Living!
