Wing One - Early Stage Dementia
The early stage dementia area is designed to serve the memory impaired individual who still functions fairly well within a structured environment. This area is a sociable community that is sensitive to inappropriate behaviors. The resident should have a sense of her own personal space to the extent that she does not enter the rooms of others and handle their belongings. She should be able to feed herself in a manner that is acceptable to the public at large. Her skills in this regard should be such that she can eat a meal in a restaurant and not "draw attention". If she needs help with dressing, grooming or using the bathroom, her deficits need to be such that one staff person can successfully assist her. Individuals in this area cannot exhibit a pattern of disruptive behaviors.
Although this area is secured, we have found that many people who do not have a memory problem request to live on Wing One because of the sociable environment.
